Netflix NFT Documentary

Netflix is set to distribute the documentary NFT:WTF? in the UK, a detailed exploration of how non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have reshaped the art world and the entertainment industry. Directed by the acclaimed filmmaker David Shulman, known for his BAFTA-winning work, the film promises an in-depth look into a phenomenon that has both intrigued and divided opinions across the globe.

Co-produced by Josh Berger’s Battersea Entertainment and Atomized Studios—Berger previously worked with Jake Gyllenhaal on “The Covenant”—the documentary has garnered attention for its comprehensive examination of NFTs’ impact. Passion Distribution will manage the release in territories outside the UK, ensuring a wide audience will access this investigative piece.

“NFT:WTF?” features interviews with key figures in the NFT arena, such as artist Damien Hirst, who shares insights into his project “The Currency.” This project made headlines when Hirst burned physical artworks as collectors chose the digital NFT versions over them. Beeple, the digital artist whose “Everydays” NFT collection fetched a staggering $69 million, and early adopter Snoop Dogg also share their experiences and perspectives on this digital revolution.

The documentary does not shy away from covering the breadth and depth of NFTs’ influence. It explores prominent NFT projects like CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club and delves into the broader community of NFT collectors. A particular focus is placed on Hirst’s “The Currency,” highlighting the pivotal decisions collectors made between owning the physical artwork or the digital version.

This Netflix NFT documentary has been acquired for distribution, but an official release date has not been announced yet by Netflix or the producers.
